The Indian government, through its policy think tank Niti Aayog, has released a ten-year roadmap to expand the national bioeconomy. The plan aims to increase the sector value from 195 billion dollars to 691 billion dollars by 2035, with a long-term goal of reaching 2.6 trillion dollars by 2047. The strategy involves establishing six national missions to advance health, agriculture, and industrial biotechnology. Key initiatives include creating biomanufacturing hubs, launching a 5.18 billion dollar growth fund to support startups, and implementing regulatory reforms to accelerate product approvals. The government intends to prioritize synthetic biology and alternative proteins while addressing talent shortages and infrastructure gaps. By integrating artificial intelligence and automated design platforms, the roadmap seeks to position India as a global leader in biotechnology and create 30 million jobs over the next decade.
