Israeli food tech startup SuperMeat secured an initial $3.5 million in an ongoing funding round, primarily led by existing investor Agronomics, to accelerate the commercialization of its fully cultivated chicken product in Europe. This funding, part of a larger $4.5 million goal, builds on previous breakthroughs that the company claims allow it to produce 100% cultivated chicken at price parity with conventional premium chicken, achieved through a robust, continuous cell line and affordable, animal-free media, drastically reducing resource needs and environmental impact. SuperMeat, which can produce the equivalent of three pounds of meat from one chicken in just two days, is prioritizing its European market strategy, solidified by this investment and partnerships with major players like German poultry giant PHW Group and Swiss retailer Migros, aiming for commercial launch by 2026.
