Upside Foods has withdrawn its 50 million dollar offer to purchase a large cultivated meat production facility in North Carolina previously owned by the insolvent firm Believer Meats. The facility, which was designed to produce 26 million pounds of cultivated chicken annually, has remained inactive since Believer Meats ceased operations due to significant debt and failed fundraising efforts. Although Upside Foods served as the initial stalking horse bidder, the company terminated the agreement after specific contractual conditions were not satisfied. Despite this withdrawal, Upside Foods maintains an interest in the site and is waiting for the court appointed receiver to establish a new sale process. The closure of the Believer Meats plant follows a period of financial instability and legal challenges for the company, reflecting broader funding difficulties currently affecting the cultivated meat industry.
