GFI India has released an analysis highlighting a mismatch between India’s educational output and the smart protein industry’s workforce needs. Despite a large number of graduates in relevant disciplines, the sector faces a shortage of job-ready talent, particularly in high-growth areas such as bioprocessing and cell culture. A study, supported by Idoboro Impact Solutions, indicates that while academic institutions provide strong theoretical foundations, limited practical exposure and a lack of smart protein-specific modules constrain the sector’s ability to scale. GFI India emphasizes that without targeted interventions in education and skilling, talent readiness could become a key bottleneck to growth. Recommendations include curriculum innovation, stronger industry-academia partnerships, and establishing a national consortium to coordinate upskilling initiatives.
