Cultivated meat is being developed as an alternative to traditional livestock farming to address global food security and environmental concerns. By producing animal protein without large-scale slaughter, this technology aims to reduce the environmental impact of food production. While researchers have made progress in cell engineering, culture media development, and bioprocess optimization, the industry faces significant hurdles. Current challenges include the high cost of production, the need for scalable bioreactor systems, and the difficulty of replicating the texture and nutritional quality of conventional meat. Although regulatory bodies in Singapore and the United States have granted initial approvals, technical and economic barriers prevent widespread commercial availability. Future research is now focused on overcoming these manufacturing limitations to determine if cultivated meat can become a viable component of sustainable food systems.
