Cultivated meat, produced by growing animal cells in vitro to reduce reliance on traditional animal farming, necessitates consistent and reliable environmental impact assessment through Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs). To achieve this, a global team of experts in cultivated meat LCA, livestock LCA, and ISO standards developed comprehensive, actionable guidelines detailing specifications across all four phases of the LCA process, from goal definition to results interpretation. These guidelines are intended to increase the consistency and reliability of environmental impact evaluations for these emerging products and also highlight critical areas for future research, such as addressing data gaps related to the availability and quality of culture media component inventories.
