Japanese biotech pioneer IntegriCulture has launched “Cellag”, an open brand designed to accelerate the global adoption of cellular agriculture across the food, cosmetics, and materials sectors. By hosting innovations from both IntegriCulture and its partners, the brand aims to address the global “protein crisis” and the environmental toll of traditional animal agriculture through “cellular agriculture terroir”, a concept that blends advanced technology with regional traditions. The launch follows a milestone year for the company, which included developing cultivated duck prototypes, shipping R&D starter kits to global universities, and securing partnerships for marine biotechnology and cell-cultured skincare. This initiative arrives amid a surge of institutional support in Japan, where the government has prioritized food tech and synthetic biology as central pillars of its economic growth strategy.
