Berlin-based startup Cultimate Foods has ceased operations four months after filing for bankruptcy. The company, founded in 2022, specialized in producing cell-cultured fat designed to improve the flavor of plant-based meat products. Despite developing proprietary technology and securing seed funding, the firm was unable to obtain the necessary capital to continue its business. This closure occurs within a broader context of financial decline for the cultivated meat industry, which has seen a significant reduction in investment compared to previous years. Consequently, several other companies in the sector have either closed, pivoted to different industries, or restructured their operations. Co-founder Jordi Morales-Dalmau confirmed the shutdown, noting that despite the team’s efforts to advance their technology, the company could not achieve long-term viability.
