The US Departments of Agriculture (USDA) and War (DoW) have signed an agreement to integrate agriculture into the national security framework, recognizing food security as critical to national strength. This partnership establishes a new research collaboration between the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the USDA, alongside the creation of an Office of Research, Economic, and Science Security. The departments will work together to develop novel technologies, exchange personnel, and accelerate innovation to protect the domestic agricultural supply chain. This initiative prioritizes American-made technology, research, and biotechnology to enhance agrifood security, address supply chain gaps, and boost domestic productivity. The move is expected to create opportunities for local food technology companies, particularly those developing alternative proteins, to counter emerging threats to the nation’s food systems.
