Brazilian meat company JBS has opened a $37 million biotech facility, JBS Biotech, in Florianópolis, Brazil. This center focuses on developing “superproteins,” which include microbial and cultivated proteins, and other functional ingredients for the food, supplement, and precision nutrition markets. Its goal is to develop knowledge and technology across the entire development cycle, from basic science to data validation, rather than solely producing finished products. This initiative aligns with JBS’s broader investment in alternative proteins and cultivated meat. The facility aims to enhance nutritional value, support specific physiological responses, and optimize production methods, incorporating circular economy principles.
