Dutch company Mosa Meat has applied to sell lab-grown beef fat in the EU, aiming to enhance plant-based meat alternatives. The fat could make veggie burgers more appealing to meat lovers. Lab-grown meat is produced from animal cells cultured in a nutrient-rich environment. While Mosa Meat’s long-term goal is a fully lab-grown burger, selling individual ingredients like fat is seen as a practical first step. The application must be evaluated by EU authorities, a process expected to take 18 months. The company faces some opposition from farmers and politicians but argues lab-grown products can coexist with traditional farming. Several other countries have already approved cultured meat products.
