Contract research company NIZO is spearheading the transformation of its Ede, Netherlands site into a food innovation park dedicated to accelerating the sustainable protein transition. This new ecosystem, initiated with partners like the Province of Gelderland and the FoodValley Region, will foster collaboration between startups, corporates, and knowledge institutions working on sources such as plants, algae, and fermentation. Key facilities will include a food-grade pilot plant and the new Biotechnology Fermentation Factory (BFF), designed to focus on the crucial stages of testing, scaling up, and market preparation—complementing the research done by nearby Wageningen University & Research. The goal is to become Europe’s leading ecosystem for scaling alternative proteins, ultimately helping to establish the FoodValley Region as a global hub for food innovation.
